Gwinnett County, Georgia, is a growing county 30 miles northeast of Atlanta. Residents of Gwinnett County who have not earned a high school diploma have the opportunity to take the General Equivalency Development Test, or GED, at several locations through Gwinnett Technical College. The college also provides free preparatory classes for the test.

Gwinnett Technical College Campus Classes

Gwinnett Technical College offers classes on its main campus in Lawrenceville during four seasonal sessions. Day or evening classes are available. The classes meet Mondays through Thursdays, along with a Friday lab. Registration for 16- and 17-year-olds requires parental consent and a high school withdrawal form; 18-year-olds need only a withdrawal form. Teenagers with those items and adults can register online for an orientation and assessment, after which they will be assigned to a class in the next session.

Meadowcreek High School

Gwinnett Technical College also offers classes at Meadowcreek High School in Norcross. These classes also run in four seasonal sessions, and the registration process and requirements are the same as for classes on the main college campus. Students can register online for an orientation and assessment before being assigned to a class in the next session. Classes meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

GED Testing

Gwinnett County Technical College offers the GED test at a fee of $19 for each of the five subject units, as of April 2011. Students who did not take GED coursework through the college are required to take a GED mini-session through the college. This session includes GED registration paperwork; the fee of $20 is then applied toward the student's test fees. The GED testing center is on the college campus in Lawrenceville.
