In Singapore and Malaysia, radiography courses are provided at colleges, hospitals, and vocational institutions. Most programs are offered at the diploma and certificate levels or as postgraduate specializations. As in the United States, radiographers in Singapore and Malaysia take images of the body using x-ray equipment, to assist doctors in the diagnosis of patients. In addition to receiving classroom training in radiography, students gain hands-on training by working at a medical imaging facility.

Academy of Medicine

Based in Kuala Lampur, the College of Radiology at the Academy of Medicine was formerly an institution that served both Malaysia and Singapore and later became a separate entity in 1966 following the partition of Singapore and Malaysia. The college provides a specialized postgraduate clinical training program in biomedical imaging and intervention.

Candidates must have a recognized higher professional qualification in the field of medicine with work experience for a period of five years. Additional prerequisites include publishing in major medical journals and paper presentations at clinical meetings.

Based in Singapore, Nanyang Polytechnic provides diploma and advanced training in various fields such as aeronautical and space technology, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering and business informatics. The diagnostic radiology and radiation therapy training are diploma programs.

Students who enroll in the diagnostic radiology training learn how to treat and identify diseases in patients; the course in radiation therapy is designed to train students in the applications of radiation for treating patients with diseases like cancer. Both courses run for three years and are full-time programs. Applicants must fulfill country specific requirements based on their academic credentials, which can be from Singapore, Malaysia or other international degrees.
