A good interior design program at a highly regarded college is not hard to find, especially if you are in Western Europe or the United States. Several of the best interior design schools can be found in the United Kingdom. Most often, these programs are based in London, but if you look hard enough, those other areas offer some fine options.
The Interior Design School
London, England's Interior Design School is a great fit for those who are just getting their feet wet in interior design or degree-seeking students who would like to get experience fast. According to the school's website, the one year, intensive, full time diploma is intended for those who would like to switch careers. The school has been given accolades by the British Interior Design Association and the British Accreditation Council.
The Inchbald, another London school, is an independent institution. It offers specializations in interior design, architectural interior design, interior decoration and garden decoration. As of 2006, the school offered online courses in addition to classes on its two campuses. Inchbald has been given publicity by "The Guardian" and multiple design-related publications for its uniquely personal approach to the study of design.
Glasgow Caledonian University
If you wish to break out of London, then a fine choice is Glasgow Caledonian University in Glasgow, Scotland. Glasgow Caledonian offers courses in interior design and other design specializations, such as product design. According to schoolofinteriordesign.org, the school integrates environmental science, technology, management and design creativity in order to fully flesh out one’s understanding of interior design.
De Montfort University
De Montfort University takes you out of London and into the heart of Leicester, England, where you can study interior design through a combination of technological and organic approaches. Drawing, video modelscope and 3-D application via computer software are spread throughout the curriculum, making for a varied education in style and design.
The American InterContinental University of London, Beverly's Bishop Burton College, Bournemouth University in Dorset, the University of Central Lancashire and Manchester Metropolitan University, all in England, each offer individual programs in design.
