The Scholastic Aptitude Test is broken down into three sections, Math, Critical Reading and Writing, and each section is scored individually, as well as compiled to make a total SAT score. The scores you receive on the SAT are often submitted with your college application to give the institution a bigger picture of your strengths, academic background and skill set. Although these test scores are just part of your comprehensive application, getting the highest score you can in each subject area will strengthen your application.

Testing the Scoring Limits

The highest possible score you can receive in the math section of the SAT is 800. The lowest score you could receive is 200. The highest possible score you can hope to receive on the combined SAT series, comprising the Critical Reading, Writing and Math sections, is 2400.
