Pepperdine University, located in Malibu, California, is a private, non-profit Christian research university that is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. George Pepperdine, who established Western Auto Supply Company, founded Pepperdine University in 1937. It is one of the top 50 colleges in the U.S. Its campus is 830 acres and overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and the school is typically on the list of Princeton University’s Most Beautiful Campuses. Pepperdine’s motto, which comes from Matthew 10:8, is “Freely ye received, freely give.” Notable alumni include actor Chace Crawford, Former U.S. Representative Todd Russell Platts, actress Kim Fields, journalist Michelle Fields, singer Brandy, journalist Bill Weir and eHarmony co-founder Neil Clark Warren. The school’s colors are blue and orange and its mascot is Willie the Wave. Pepperdine’s sporting affiliation is NCAA Division I – WCC, and it has won Division I team championships in men’s baseball, golf, volleyball, water polo and tennis. The varsity sports offered include men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, track and water polo, and women’s basketball, cross country, golf and soccer. The university used to have a football team from 1946 to 1961, and its first mascot was Roland the Wave.
