The Master of Business Administration is a graduate degree for business professionals who want to learn advanced business and management theories and techniques. Within the state of Kentucky, multiple universities offer the MBA. Several universities stand out as having the best programs based on accreditation, class format options, specialties and tuition.
University of Kentucky
The flagship university for the state of Kentucky offers an MBA program with four different tracks. The one-year accelerated MBA is a 45-week program. The professional evening MBA track is for working professionals and takes approximately two years to complete. The MBA for executives, a new program starting in 2014, is for experienced executives. Classes meet every other weekend for 17 months. The professional Greek MBA is an 18-month program in partnership with TEI of Piraeus in Athens, Greece. The total cost for these programs is $21,188 for Kentucky residents and $34,465 for non-residents. All programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Eastern Kentucky University
MBA courses at Eastern Kentucky University are scheduled for up to one night per week. The university offers both online and blended course options. Students can attend either full- or part-time. EKU has three different MBA options: the general MBA, the accounting MBA, and the integrated communications MBA each have the same core courses but offer different electives based on the primary focus of the option the student is pursuing. All of the MBA programs at EKU are accredited by AACSB International. The degrees can be completed in less than two years. Six hours of graduate-level tuition is $2730 for Kentucky residents and $4680 for non-residents. There are 30 credit hours in the program, not counting prerequisites.
University of Louisville
University of Louisville offers six different MBA options. The full-time MBA takes 13 months to complete. The entrepreneurship MBA is a 20-month program focusing on business start-ups. The professional MBA is a part-time, 20-month program with evening and weekend courses. The joint MBA program is a combined MBA with another graduate degree, such as a law degree. The time spent in this degree varies. The executive MBA program is a new program in partnership with the University of Kentucky and is expected to begin in 2014. It is a 17-month program for mid-level and C-level executives only, with classes held every other weekend. The global MBA offers courses at partner schools throughout Europe and takes 15 months to complete. Tuition for an MBA that is part of a joint degree is $26,600 plus the tuition for the other program. Tuition for the other MBAs is $32,000. All MBAs at U of L are AACSB-accredited.
Western Kentucky University
WKU offers three different MBA options. The professional MBA is ranked in the top 5% in the U.S. based on results of the MBA Major Field Test. It is a full-time, one-year program. The second option is the online MBA. This program can be done either part-time or full-time. The third possibility is the professional option. This two-year program is done in groups and meets in locations around Kentucky on weekends. Tuition is $5034 per semester. It is an AACSB-accredited program.
