UC Berkeley is the oldest public research university among those within the University of California system. The school offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology through the school's Psychology Department. Harvard University, a distinguished private research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is the oldest post-secondary institution of higher learning in the United States. In 2009, the university was ranked as having the third-best psychology school in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. The Department of Psychology at Harvard University offers a dynamic undergraduate program as well as a graduate Ph.D. program. In the undergraduate psychology program, students can choose from the following tracks: General track, the Mind, Brain, and Behavioral track, the Social and Cognitive Neuroscience track and the Secondary Field in Psychology track. Students in the Ph.D. program can follow two different graduate tracks. In the first track, students follow the Common Curriculum, which offers study in social psychology, cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience and perception. In the second track, students focus solely on clinical science and psychology practice.
