The Coca-Cola Company, an American beverage corporation and manufacturer founded in 1886, runs the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation -- a national program that awards scholarships to students throughout the country. At the time of publication, the foundation has three scholarship programs: The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship, The Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team and Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, established in 1989, is a nonprofit organization that awards scholarships to high school and college students annually. According to the foundation's website, scholarship winners are selected based on their academic achievements as well as their passion for service and helping others. At the time of publication, the organization has awarded approximately $60 million in scholarship money across its three programs.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is the foundation's main program -- awarding scholarships to high-achieving high school students every year. This is a national program, open to all graduating high school students in the U.S. To apply, you must be planning to attend an American college or university the upcoming academic year, have at least a 3.0 GPA at the time of application and show a passion to lead and serve in your community. The program gives $20,000 awards to 150 students each year. Students have between four and 10 years to spend the full award on tuition as well as other academic expenses such as textbooks, computers and housing. The application period starts in August and ends in October, and you can apply directly through the foundation's website.
The Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team
The Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team is a scholarship program for community college students. This program is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Twenty winners are selected annually and receive $2,500 each. To apply, you must be enrolled in a community college at the time of application, have a cumulative college GPA of at least 3.5, be pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree and have at least 38 college credits completed at the time of application. Students must also show proof of leadership and community involvement. The scholarship is open to both U.S. and international students, though U.S. applicants must be members of Phi Theta Kappa. Applications are accepted between Oct. 1 and Dec. 2 through the Phi Theta Kappa website.
Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise program is specifically for new college students who are part of Phi Theta Kappa. The program awards up to 200 scholarships a year worth $1,000 each. To apply, you must be a Phi Theta Kappa member enrolled in a community college, have a minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.5, have completed 12 to 36 college credits, must not hold a bachelor's or associate degree and be continuing your college education the upcoming school year. For 2015, applications are being accepted from March 2 to May 15 through the Phi Theta Kappa website.
