Many home school students, individuals in the military and those without close proximity to learning institutions find that achieving their educational goals through correspondence is a positive alternative to a traditional education. If you fit into one of these categories and want to enroll in a correspondence school, ensure that the school is accredited, especially if you intend to continue your education at another institution.

Penn Foster

Penn Foster has two accreditations. The Middle States Commission and the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council have recognized Penn Foster as a reputable learning institution. According to Penn Foster, the school offers over 3,500 courses and gives students the ability to earn a high school diploma or an associate degree. Complete course materials online or through printed materials mailed to you. You have up to 18 months to complete a course.

American School

The American School is specifically designed for students seeking a high school diploma. The American School has the ability to tailor coursework in order for students from all backgrounds to achieve their educational goals. Students may accomplish all of their high school training through correspondence, or they may choose only the classes they need to graduate. The American School is fully accredited by regional and national accrediting organizations and offers 70 self-paced courses to prospective students.

North Texas Academy

North Texas Academy is a private school located in Plano, Texas. The school is fully accredited, and students will receive a high school diploma from North Texas Academy upon completion. According to the school, most students will take from two to three years to complete all of their high school coursework and receive a diploma. However, students with special needs are personally addressed by the faculty, and a specialized study program is offered on a individualized basis. Coursework is mailed to students, and students have approximately two weeks to complete the work and return it to the course instructor for grading.
